I was a nine-year-old during the last 100 days. I was obsessed with the war in Europe and the Pacific; I had assumed that after the Battle of the Bulge that the war in Europe was essentially over. John Toland's :Last 100 Days has proved me wrong; I had not realized that Hitler was a ghost of his former self and that there was still considerable support for the war among his staff. An absorbing account of the final days of WWII in Europe

Tapestry of a hundred critical days.

My first contact with Mr. Toland's writings was "Gods of War" and found it a great WWII novel. At that time I wasn't aware Mr. Toland was a professional historian on war themes. Researching in Amazon, for bibliography on WWII I was delighted to find out Mr. Toland's works.

In "The Last 100 Days" he collects hundreds of testimonies from the actors of this last war drama, ranging from State Heads to simple privates and fleeing civilians.

Mr. Toland blends all of them in an overwhelming and coherent picture. His prose is entertaining and informative. The reader has the sensation of "being there" and will be presented with vignettes of very different kind.

It is amazing how in the same book, without losing coherence, you are able to witness Hitler's maddening last days and Yalta Conference's intimacies vis-à-vis with the story of two young Poles running to freedom.

With great patience and skill Mr. Toland sew a huge tapestry showing these momentous Last Days.

A great stuff to read for historians, students or casual readers. Enjoy!!!.

I Don't Know What to Think

I liked the book. I really enjoyed spending time with Kett. I liked the fight in the bakery and meeting Blossom. However, I felt like during the actual treasure hunt that things happened through luck rather than by tapping into Jade's magic. The resolution of the various crises was all done off-screen with no explanation. So, as I said, I enjoyed the book, but character appearances seemed pro forma and the story was not as completely satisfying as it could have been. The ending was just abrupt. So, I would recommend the book as a continuation of the ongoing story arc, but it is not my favorite of the series.

Loved the adventure and the tension between the characters. I almost lapsed into a chocolate coma from the vivid descriptions throughout each chapter. Looking forward to the next book and next adventure...as long as it's filled with German Chocolate Cake and lots of peppermint with a faint hint of spice. Yum.

Great read. It's a great series and I love the characters. I missed kandy though, but overall still a great book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a world to lose themselves in.

About the Author
Timothy Chhim is a motivational speaker and owner of an Allstate Insurance Agency in Nanuet, New York, USA. He was born in a rural village in Cambodia and from a young age dreamed of freedom and a better life. When the communist Khmer Rouge, under the leadership of Pol Pot, seized power in 1975, Timothy was among thousands who were forced to leave the capital city of Phnom Penh. He was singled out as an educated citizen as well as a Republic official, having served as a police officer, and was sent to the jungle to be killed. He managed to escape, after many failed attempts, and survived to reach the safety of Thailand and later the USA. Tom Cunningham is a motivational speaker, radio host, and life coach. He was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of five, a disease that affects every joint in his body, causing constant pain and making many day-to-day activities challenging. He has been in the hospital over 40 times for numerous surgeries. In addition, high doses of the steroid prednisone stunted his growth, and he stands 5’1” tall. Despite the pain and challenges that come from living with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Tom chooses a positive mental attitude, and answers “Amazing!” to anyone who asks how he is. Tom and his wife, Kim, live in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Taylor Tagg is a published author, professional speaker, and radio show host. He has written three personal growth books, Enrich Your Sunrise, The Path to a Peaceful Heart, and co-wrote Adversity to Advantage. Taylor's podcast, Journey to Success, showcases people who are passionate about making a difference in the world with transformational businesses and ideas. Taylor's natural talent lies in coaching people in how to fulfill their emotional and spiritual potential. As a Forgiveness Champion and Emotional Intelligence Expert, Taylor empowers those dealing with significant adversity to aspire to peace using his simple, proven process. He lives in Memphis, Tennessee with his wife Sherri.

The Energy of the Mind is the Essence of Life...

This book describes the stories of three men who demonstrated how the power of a positive attitude and perseverance helped them overcome difficult obstacles in their lives. As the daughter and teacher of Killing Fields survivors,Timothy and Kim Chhim, I have been greatly influenced by their optimism to see the best in every situation and to use that positive energy to affect those around me. Using Tim's story as well as speaking about Tom's and Taylor's experiences, they have made a huge impact on my students' lives. Their stories has inspired them and they are starting to see how they can handle challenging situations in their lives in other ways. This is a must read book! Also, if you are able, you must try to have these men come and speak at your schools or any motivational events; they are incredible men with incredible experiences to share!

Delightful Surprise.

This is a sneaky little book. Full of surprises. Was seeking my usual dose of "entertaining hardship" stories, you know the type, a tale of courage, endurance, and achievement, so impressive that the degree of my own personal challenges pale in comparison. You see, drawing off the strength of others' helps me get through my day with a little less angst and self pity. That's why tales of super-human achievements are a mainstay on my night stand.

But this crafty little book offered an unexpected twist. It engaged me on a different and deeper level than usual. The story tellers some how lured me off my mental sofa and into exercise mode. Trust me, I'm too lazy, or too old, or too wise, for mental exercise. However, these authors (with the aid of an excellent editor I'm sure) enabled me to shake off the cob webs in some rarely visited corners of the mind.

Not to scare you off, but this book triggered some over due introspection. The good news is that its dose of medicine is more powerful and longer lasting than the typical book of its kind.

A delightful page-turner filled with fortitude, good will, and actionable guidance. Many thanks and good wishes to the authors. Kudos to the editor.

About the Author
TONY T. LEE, PhD, is Professor of Information Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Science. From 1991 to 1993, he was a professor of electrical engineering at the Polytechnic Institute. Previously with AT&T Bell and Bellcore, Dr. Lee was the recipient of the Leonard G. Abraham Prize Paper Award from IEEE Communication Society in 1988, and the National Natural Science Award from China in 1999. He is a Fellow of IEEE and now an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications.

SOUNG C. LIEW, PhD, is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Information Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also Adjunct Professor at Southeast University in China. TCP Veno, a version of TCP that improves its performance over wireless networks, was proposed by Liew and his student, and has now been incorporated into a recent release of Linux OS. He initiated and built the first inter-university ATM network testbed in Hong Kong in 1993.
