We were all taught that children inherit the genes of their parents. Their physical appearance and sometimes even their disease history becomes part of who we are. Most of the time, we also copy their attitudes and mannerisms. In the case of Wardell “Steph” Curry, one couldn’t help but wonder if he also inherited his NBA father Dell Curry’s shooting touch. An NBA pundit said that great shooters are not made, they are born.


Fans of the league have been very privileged to watch some of the greatest shooters that ever played the game. From the likes of Pete Maravich, Larry Bird, former three-point record holder Reggie Miller, and the one who unseated him, Ray Allen, we have witnessed the greatest shooting displays on the planet. However, some scribes rate Steph Curry, even in the early stages of his career, as the greatest shooter in history. Although this is still debatable, some of Curry’s performances have backed up this somewhat outrageous statement, especially to loyal Miller or Allen fans. On February 27, 2013, Curry lit up Madison Square Garden, scoring a career-best 54 points, including 11 of 13 from deep. He also owns the league record for three-pointers made in a single season with 272, set during the 2012-13 season, breaking Allen’s record.

Great story

Even though I'm a Los Angeles Lakers fan, I decided to read Stephen Curry: The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Sharpest Shooters because I had read Clayton Geoffrey's other work on Steve Nash and enjoyed it. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this short read. The book covered a lot of neat things I did not know about Steph such as the fact that he was not heavily recruited by any major Division I basketball team and that he is a devoted follower of Christ who not only displays his unselfishness on the basketball court but also off the court. This is a well-written work that shares the incredible story of Steph Curry's rise in the NBA. Since my Lakers are out of the playoffs this time around, I'll have my eyes on the Warriors as they try to make a splash in the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

I purchased this book for my 11 year-old grandson who LOVES Steph Curry. It was very insightful as to his early childhood and upbringing, core value system, and overall basketball acumen. Because it was also age appropriate and not overreaching, my grandson finished it in no time flat.

It was a treat to read the history of a professional NBA player and one of the best shooters in basketball history. This short story was a comprehensive view into Stephen Curry's life and an inspiring piece for any would-be basketball players. He has a great career ahead of him and I'm looking forward to seeing his performance in the playoffs after learning so much about him.

But upon arriving in LA, her head is turned by Courtney, an enticing woman who repeatedly refuses her advances.

As Sam and Alex begin piecing together evidence, they soon discover the bombings are something bigger than they appear. The attackers may have ties to even bigger political motivations, international arms dealing and traitors within the American government.

When one of the bombings results in Sydney being seriously injured, and her ex-fiancé steps in to take advantage of the situation, it has potentially devastating effects for her relationship with Alex.

I waited with anticipation for the sequel to “White Roses Calling”. I loved the first story and couldn’t wait to follow up with Alex and Sydney. I have to admit that I expected a story along the same lines from the first story. I was a little disappointed because this story distorted/diminished the strong characters of the up-and-coming DA, Sydney Rutledge and police sergeant, Alex Chambers. In “White Roses Calling” it was made clear that Sydney and Alex were strong and forceful women and they finally found in each other what they both needed and wanted in a relationship. They also fought together one of the most evil of serial killers and came up on top. In the first story, Sydney was a strong and compelling woman but in this sequel, Sydney is less that sure of herself or anything else. She lets her ex-fiancé treat her like a “blond joke”. She doesn’t stand up for herself or Alex and manages to almost lose herself in her own mind. Alex doesn’t stand up for herself or for Sydney. In the end, we never get to read how the the ex-fiancé’s got his comeuppance when his “plot” is discovered and foiled.

Great follow up to White Roses loved the relationship with Sydney and Alex evolving and Courtney and Sam also. Awesome storyline and now we want book 3 of this series Alex and Syd's story is not finished much more story to tell just saying!!!

I really enjoyed this book. I liked revisiting with Alex and Sydney. I especially enjoyed the fact that we got to see the continuation and evolution of their relationship, even through traumatic experiences. I enjoyed the new characters Sam and Courtney. I hope there is more to come in the series.

Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, is perhaps the best-known proponent of using meditation to help patients deal with illness. (The somewhat confusing title is from a line in Zorba the Greek in which the title character refers to the ups and downs of family life as "the full catastrophe.") But this book is also a terrific introduction for anyone who has considered meditating but was afraid it would be too difficult or would include religious practices they found foreign. Kabat-Zinn focuses on "mindfulness," a concept that involves living in the moment, paying attention, and simply "being" rather than "doing." While you can practice anything "mindfully," from taking a walk to cleaning your house, Kabat-Zinn presents several meditation techniques that focus the attention most clearly, whether it's on a simple phrase, your breathing, or various parts of your body. The book goes into detail about how hospital patients have either improved their health or simply come to feel better despite their illness by using these techniques, but these meditations can help anyone deal with stress and gain a calmer outlook on life. Kabat-Zinn is founder and director of the stress reduction program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and the "full catastrophe" of which he writes is the spectrum of stress in life. His program, in a word, is meditation, rescued from the mire of mysticism that made it trendy in the 1960s. The author focuses on the advantages of employing "practiced mindfulness" to control and calm our responses without blunting our feelings--and a more convincing introduction to the many modes and uses of meditation could hardly be imagined. In personable, enlightening prose, Kabat-Zinn first explains how to develop a meditation schedule, and in later chapters pragmatically applies his plan to the main sources of stress. Sometimes I think back...

To the days of my life before I found this book, or as I sometimes like to look at it, before this book found me. I was a high strung mess of anxiety, even afraid to go to work and face the "challenges" of a day of social interaction and internal struggle and emotions. I wasn't completely sure what I was, but I was pretty sure I was suffering from what doctors would call social or maybe generalized anxiety. And with that came depression and sometimes hopelessness of ever changing and moving on. This went on for years--for as far back as I can remember--and it only seemed like it was getting worse, and I was never able to accept myself, I thought myself a failure of some sort. What had I or my parents done wrong in raising me? Why me?
When I found this book, I had been through several programs for anxiety that I had found and downloaded online--none of them helping much--and when I read the introduction, something about it clicked with me. It somehow subconsciously made sense and I knew that I had found something that might actually change the way I WAS, and unknowingly but much more importantly, change the way I viewed myself.
Over the next 8 months, I almost religiously followed the exercises in the book. I learned more about myself and the world around me in those eight months than I have in the past ten years, at least it feels that way.
To cut a long story short, I still have anxiety, but on a scale of 1-10 it is now a 2 where it was an 7 or an 8 before. Simply put, practicing mindfulness pulls the rug from under anything that bothers you in any way. It teaches you that it's ok to feel any emotion and think any thought because that is what is already here. It teaches you to accept those things, and in the process of doing that, those horrible horrible things lose their power over you, and you can begin to heal.
To anyone suffering from emotional pain of any sort, please let me be an example to you that you don't have to be controlled by these terrible feelings. Learn to accept them as they are, and they will go away by themselves.

Great introduction to the practice of mindfulness meditation!

I remember when Bill Moyers first interviewed Jon Kabat-Zinn and I have been interested in mindfulness meditation off and on ever since. Five months ago I lost my husband. I also have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency or "inherited emphysema" and I am on oxygen 24/7. This past summer the stress from both became unbearable. So I bought the book. It is an extremely easy read and the author lulls you into the practice, little by little, from page one. I am now a convert and I plan to take a live course the beginning of next year. I highly recommend this book.

A book that can change one's life if we try

I am taking a course at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter Florida and this is required reading for the course. It goes along with our professor who has been teaching Mindfullness Living for 17 years and though I am 67 years of age this book has taught me a lot about living as we age. As a cancer survivor I really needed this book to help me cope with aging, realizing that I can't do as much as I could when I was younger and how to cope with aging parents and children who are married and in their early 40s and raising their own children. This book has taught me how to relax a little and breath deeply and think before I just jump to a conclusion about stressful matters in my life. One can always learn even when we are a senior and I would advise that any person young or old read this book as it will change their outlook on life. I purchased three extra copies to give to my daughter and two friends who I thought could take away some new life skills from this book.
