Excellent Rare Insights

This is an excellent analysis of modern (post-modern) middle-class liberal thought processes. As Shannon Sullivan points out, these four major categories of distancing oneself from toxic portions of American history are unconscious. More importantly, making these items conscious such that we can cast light on the darkness of "colorblind" approaches demands that we face the issues so as to grow (hopefully) towards a less racist society. Ms. Sullivan's candor and precise--sometimes cutting-- observances are admirably displayed with humility. I am thrilled to discover such an esoteric and intellectual writer who is simultaneously contributing to a field (critical race theory) which has the potential to make such tangible differences in our lives.

This book is based on Williamson's discovery of A Course in Miracles , a self-help guide whose provenance she doesn't explain. Age 26 at the time and feeling lost and desperate after indulging in the excesses of the 1960s, the Jewish author had no real hope for inspiration from the course because of its Christian terminology. But, she writes in this guide to the guide, the program works "miracles" for herself and for others who adopt its principles. Her extrapolations may appeal to readers in need of spiritual sustenance, but one questions Williamson's advice to the gravely ill. When she encourages them, for example, to "write a letter to AIDS or cancer or whatever illness they might have, and tell it everything they feel"--even to fabricate "replies" from the disease--readers are likely to consider that a serious situation is trivialized. Williamson is founder and president of the Los Angeles and Manhattan Center for Living, a support service. BOMC alternate; author tour.

Some may find the theories and practices presented here somewhat off-putting (e.g., Williamson counsels people with AIDS to write letters to the disease, rather than use fear and hatred to fight it). Make a change in your life simply by willing it to happen!

I had been in a dead end relationship for a good number of years. I wanted to keep it going but the other side of me wanted to just end the relationship. I hoped and prayed that one day the relationship would cease to exist. It was then that I came across the is wonderful book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles. I quickly took to it and thought that all these years I had the power all along to end the unhappiness that I had been experiencing. I was so relieved yet happy to know that the universe was not in charge of me changing but instead it was all in my hands to make the needed changes.

Soon after reading this book, I came along to the other book called Manifestation Magic: Attracting Abundant Wealth, Incredible Health, Great Relationships, and Limitless Success Into Your Life. This book was a lot more in detail about the various things that we are able to change and turn around in our lives. The biggest of these is that we actually have the power to reverse illness. This concept totally blew my mind and made me wonder what else I had been missing out on in life. The power is within all of us and after reading this book, I was quickly able to see ways that we are able to affect the course of our life on a regular basis.

While these books alone can give you a lot of insight, these two together help to unlock the whole mystery that is set in front of a person. Regardless of what the real secret is that unlocks all of the mysteries of life, you need to just know that the answer is a lot closer than you might expect it to be.

Great book for our times. How we can change our lives by loving ourselves and others who are here to learn and to experience this world just as we are. By trusting in a Higher Power that created and manages universes to create and manage a new improved life for us. By surrendering our manic control of which we have very little of anyway, and focusing (remembering) on what we really do have control over, our attention. Returning our attention to each other with consideration, compassion, understanding, (as we would want for ourselves) and most of all, with the most powerful and beautiful force that exists, Love.

Felt slightly outdated but the concepts opened my mind to start reading more into the laws of attraction. Recommend newer books like deliberate receiving finally the universe makes from freaking sense. But this isn't a bad first read into the laws of attraction. She opens saying how she was weird & unloved & I now feel bad for saying its outdated - I think she has done newer stuff I'll check out :)

Excellent textbook, it was very easy to understand all the macroeconomic concepts presented and the integrated examples throughout the book were very helpful in applying the material to the real world. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Although I used this for a college class, I'm sure a high school student could understand these concepts just as well using this book.

Lies, Dang Lies, and Keynesian Economics.

This book is all Keynesian economics. Keynesian is AKA "Corporate Propaganda to Benefit Big Banks." Inflation is the weapon of choice of Banksters and corrupt governments world wide. "How an economy grows and why it doesn't" is a book based on reality. The documentary "money masters" Shows the truth of who and why is in control.

Who Came Up With That

I bought this book as a requirement for an MBA class titled "Management of Innovation/Technology." Beyond reading Paul Trott's Innovation Management and New Product Development to satisfy class requirements is my personal involvment in innovation and technology. Paul Trott's text helped me to understand the company I worked for many years ago and the role I have played since when consulting. Paul Trott provides a valuable perspective for anyone who is involved in research and development in a corporate, or for that matter, academic setting.

If you find yourself, due to pursuing a passion for some subject (computer virtualization in my case), in a position where you are helping to develop, market or finance something that will make customers ask themselves "Who came up with that neat ideat" then you should read Mr. Trott's book. Mr. Trott provides insight into the different types of innovation that companies engage in, the lifecycle of new products and how organizations use their intellectual and technological assets to their advantage as well as customers and even society at large.

It's an OK book but would have like to review a few pages before. It sounds like it's from a foreign country just by the verbage. About the Author

Levon Helm met Ronnie Hawkins at the age of 17 and formed what would soon become the Band. He maintained a successful career as a singer and actor until his death in 2012. Stephen Davis is the author of numerous books, including Hammer of the Gods, Jim Morrison, More Room in a Broken Heart, Old Gods Almost Dead, and Walk This Way. He lives in Milton, Massachusetts.

Levon nails it.

Levon Helms' recollections span from the end of WWII to the late 1990s. If one is looking for the roots of rock & roll, they are here, inside this wonderful, spicy memoir. If one is seeking the inner workings of one of America's most important bands of the letter half of the 20th century, one need look no further. Levon pulls no punches, is gracious with his praise, and is very forthcoming about the dissolution of The Band. I highly recommend this important addition to the annals of rock & roll history.

A wonderful book about one of the great musicians of the rock era.

I first heard Levon in 1959 when he was playing with Ronnie Hawkins and got to know him a short time later, as our bands would cross paths, playing in many of the same places. Fortunately I was able to spend some time with him the last few years when he came back to Arkansas. Lee was a sweet, wonderful human being, fantastic musician, and always gave noteworthy performances as an actor. This was all captured in the book – a great read!
The photos were taken when our band was on The Band’s bus after a concert at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa in 1995. That’s my drummer, Ed Windsor, who was giving his red sparkle 1950s Gretsch drum kit to Levon, identical to the one Helm played for years in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s. If you’ve seen the photo of the bass drum surrounded with flowers at Levon’s memorial (and the recent one as well), those are Ed’s old drums, which had been given a prized place in his studio. R.I.P. Levon, Ed, and Rick Danko (as well as our other brothers-in-music, Richard Manuel, StanSzelest, Don Tyson and Dayton Stratton).

An honest and straightforward telling of a great musician's story

Given the chasm that developed between Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson, it's to be expected that any account of The Band's history written by a band member will be pretty biased. I give Levon a great deal of credit in not overdoing this. He gives Robertson his due when he thinks it's warranted, which turns out to be more often that you might think. And Levon's not shy about expressing opinions on things.

But ultimately this is the story of a man who was the "real thing", a man with the varied mix of musical backgrounds that only those from the South truly have, and how it worked with a group of Canadians as far removed from those backgrounds as you could get. Helm's narrative is detailed and insightful. He's aware of his influence (particularly on other musicians), but doesn't brag about it. He just tells the tale in an easy, conversational style.

A fine read from the guy I always thought had the most authentically American singing voice I ever heard.

Number 1 in a great series

Taming Natasha is the first of six books in Norah Roberts' fine and fascinating series on the Stanislaski Family. It's NOT a new series of books, so if you've been reading Nora for a couple of decades, as I have, you've probably already read all six and enjoyed them once. They're worth another read and these e-versions definitely belong on the Kindles of Nora's devoted fans. Just be careful and try to read them in order; Amazon doesn't make this easy because on the KINDLE Bookstore site, if you search for "Stanislaski series" you'll be taken to a page that has the first two (or maybe three) in the order in which they were written, but gets the others all mixed up! To help you out, here is the chronological order of the series (and a couple of words on the relationship with Natasha of each protagonist):
1. Taming Natasha
2. Luring a Lady, featuring Mikhail, Natasha's brother.
3. Falling for Rachel, featuring Rachel, Natasha's sister.
4. Convincing Alex, featuring Alexi, Natasha's brother.
5. Waiting for Nick, featuring Natasha's brother-in-law's brother!!
6. Considering Kate, featuring Natasha' s daughter.

Good Read

First of six in Roberts' Stanislaski series, the warm-hearted, hot-blooded and gorgeous Ukranian-American family.

Both hero and heroine have suffered losses in the past, personal and professional, and have rebuilt their lives accordingly. They are likeable and sympathetic characters, and I was vested in their happiness. He is a father and she runs a toy store, so children and humor were a leavening touch throughout.

Always a fan.

I have read and reread this book many times over the past years. This was my first Nora Roberts book. I've been hooked ever since. Her writing is romantic and comical with a touch of typical.

This is a start to a great series. Natasha and her family make for great Characters. I look forward to getting reacquainted with them again.

If you're a Nora Roberts fan, you will appreciate the older style. If this is your first Nora Roberts. Prepare to be hooked.
